I have tried tivo desktop to transfer a file from my tivo to my pc. It only worked 10% of the time. Most of the time it crashed. I'm using tivo hd and windows vista. The tivo is wired to the router (not wireless).
I have tried going to the server page to download a file from tivo but that didn't work.
So I'm trying to use pytivo to download files from my tivo to computer. That's all I want to do.
I tried transfering a file using pytivo but it isn't showing up. So I don't know how to figure out what is wrong.
I think I'm attaching my config file. I changed the MAK and server address.
I have a plane trip and need to make some dvds of cartoons so that my son doesn't scream on the plane.
When prompted, type "tivo" for the username (no quotes) and your Media Access Key (MAK) as the password.
You should be presented with the Tivo's Now Playing list and use the download links to download .tivo format files.
You mentioned that you are wired from the Tivo to your router, but are you wired from the router to your PC doing the downloading? Given that Tivo HD content is normally multiple GB in size and the download rate is pretty slow, any network instability will kill the download. So best to be wired from Tivo to router and from router to PC.
Also if your storage drive is formatted FAT32, your max file size is 4GB and that will abort tranfers that are larger when it hits the 4GB limit. There are also some AV and third party firewall packages that suck and impose a size limit so disabling them temporarily may help.
