Congrats for the mainstream media mention.
Funny though, I never saw this as 'showing up' Tivo. Tivo the company has always enjoyed and fostered a loyal user/developer community. So much of the success that Tivo enjoys is because of the development efforts of its users. Granted, there used to be more support than there seems to be now, but its still there.

The reason that it is likely said to be "showing up" Tivo is that pytivo is really a replacement for Tivo Desktop (in so many ways). If pytivo was simply adding new functionality to Tivo than I agree with your fostering development ideas comment. As it is, the pytivo folks have done more for free (and without access to all of the Tivo code) than Tivo has done with Tivo Desktop Plus, which they charge folks for.
I agree with Engadget for the most part on that article, but frankly feel that pytivo kicked Tivo's teeth in.
