Is it possible to create and push videos (MP4s) to a unique folder on my TIVO?

Yes. Just make metadata for them that gives them a common seriesId. The folder title will be derived from the title or seriesTitle of the first one pushed.

Yup. Takes a few steps to accomplish. This example assumes you want to create a group/folder on your TiVo named "MyVids".

- Locate all of the recordings you wish to have transferred to the TiVo and grouped/foldered into a directory/folder on the machine running pyTivo.
- Within that folder, add 3 files. The exact naming and contents of these files is important.

"default.txt"
This contains a single line of text :
"seriesId: MyVids" (dont' include quotes)

"MyVids.XXX"
This is a pyTivo-compatible video file, where XXX = (mpg, ts, avi, mp4, etc.)
It's more convenient if this file is very small, since you really don't need it after the folder is created.

"MyVids.XXX.txt"
Again, replace XXX with any of the allowable extensions from above.
This contains a single line of text :
"title : MyVids" (dont' include quotes)

From pyTivo the web interface, you must transfer the "MyVids.XXX" file first.
Once the file has transferred, you may transfer any of your other recordings, which will end up in the new group/folder "MyVids"

I don't believe such a roundabout approach is necessary, but I'm too tired to pursue this right now.

Hey Paul,

I've followed this exactly however when I look up the file under "now playing" in my Tivo it says I can't transfer the file Myvids.XXX (in this case .avi) due to "copyright restrictions". Any suggestions?

Hi Paul,

I've followed your instructions however when getting the file to pull from my Mac to Tivo (via the now playing section), the file MyVids.XXX (in this case .avi) won't transfer due to "copyright restrictions". Any thoughts?

I've transferred .avi files plenty of times in the past but for some reason not in this case...

Sorry for the double reply.

You can't group files with a "pull" (go into share on TiVo and request a transfer from your PC/Mac), but only with a "push" by going into pyTivo's web interface and initiating the transfer.
Not sure if it's the same on a Mac, but on my PC I just go to "localhost:9032" to access the pyTivo web page.
From there, go into your shares area, and then follow my instructions from above.
