I was pondering today if it would be possible (from a usability stand point) to have a cloud based repository of music and access it via pyTivo.
The service I thought might be most useful would be Google Music .. so I was searching for a way to access the songs stored there. Apparently there is no official API (yet) ... but someone has coded up an unofficial one, and I believe its using python.
Well I'm glad to hear that its "doable and easy" .. Sadly, I wouldn't know where to start in terms of integrating it with pyTivo .. (otherwise I would have done it) .. I could probably do some tweaks if someone got *close*.
So, hopefully someone out there is willing to take on a challenge that would be great, I'd be happy to be a tester. Though, the lack of activity in this Hacks forum makes me wonder how many eyes are going to see this ...
In terms of using Google Music specifically .. I actually have no experience with it .. I didn't even know they *had* free stuff. It just seemed to fit the bill in terms of what I was envisioning. I haven't even set up an account yet.
Looks like you can store up to 20,000 songs with them. And it seems like that would be a cool way to share a large repository of music with multiple instances of pyTivo. (Legitimately of course, like at multiple houses you own, or when you visit your parents... or whatever )
For people with really large amounts of music I could see this easily allowing for multiple accounts .. maybe a "Classical" account .. and a "Jazz" one .. and then "Rock" .. each with its own config in pyTivo.conf (and username/password).
Anyhow, if anyone is feeling creative ... here is a project for you!
