I have some mkv files that are cropped from a 2.4:1 or 2.35:1 source. So instead of a true 1280x720 resolution, then are 1280x528 or 1280x544.
pyTivo with optres set to false will pass the resolution to my Tivo Series 3 just fine, but then the Tivo vertically stretches it to fill my whole screen at 1280x720. Hitting the Aspect button on the Tivo remote and switching to Panel mode looks like it's undoing the vertical stretch correctly, but I'm lazy and don't want to have to change the Aspect on the Tivo. Not to mention it's not very wife friendly.
I figured out how to use the ffmpeg pad options to compensate by adding black letterboxing and I've looked through enough of the transcode code to think I can code up an option to config to allow padding heights to maintain aspect ratio when optres==false.
Anyone have any opinions on how worthwhile this is or if I'm just going to cause a mess?
