I am running pyTivo under Ubuntu and it used to work fine. I hadn't run it for quite a while now and when I wanted t use it today again the Tivo couldn't find it. I went through the trouble shooting and I can reach pyTivo from another computer but no beacon signal appears. On startup pyTivo also doesn't write anything to the screen. I tried to debug this myself but even failed finding the lines that usually should produce the startup output.
How are you able to verify that there are no beacons being sent? Even with debug enabled, the beacons aren't logged. Are you sniffing network traffic?
If you have more than one IP address assigned on your Ubuntu box, pyTivo may be sending beacons to the wrong subnet.
Stop pyTivo and add a beacon = <tivo ip> line to your pyTivo.conf. Then start it up again and see if that works. Alternatively, if you have multiple Tivos you can either specific each IP on that line with a space in between each or you can specify the broadcast address for the subnet your Tivo is on.
Also make sure you're using a recent version of pyTivo as it includes the GUID randomization that helps with the Tivo getting confused.
