As the title implies, I have no idea what I'm doing. I managed to get pyTivo installed and it did show up (briefly) as an empty folder on my TiVo. I have no idea how to even start the program. Once started, how do I transcode a file and add it to the TiVo. I've red through the instructions, the FAQ and these forums and can't find anything. I must be missing something really obvious, and will undoubtedly feel very stupid when I see the answer. Any help you can provide would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.
There is no GUI. pyTivo is a Tivo HMO server. It has a web front end that you can connect to with your web browser, but you don't pre-transcode anything. The web front end is there primarily to configure pyTivo and to initiate Push transfers to the Tivo.
You just point pyTivo to your video files via editting the conf file or using the web front end. Then when you initiate a transfer from the Tivo Now Playing list (Pull) or from the web front end (Push), pyTivo probes the video and will automatically transcode on the fly or just pass through depending on whether the files native specs are Tivo compatible.
If you haven't configured an init.d script to run pyTivo as a daemon, then you have to open a Terminal session and launch it from the command line. See:
