I have been ripping some of my son's dvds and then renaming the main .VOB file to .MPG so that I can upload them to my Tivo Series 2. This often works fine, but sometimes the resulting files refuse to transfer completely.
After some investigation I came to the conclusion that the reason the files were not transfering had to do with the frame rate being listed at 59.94 -- the videos play fine in WMP etc., but even WMP can't seem to figure out what the correct video length (in time) is.
I manually transcoded one of these videos using ffmpeg with the dvd-ntsc option as well as setting fps to 29.97 on the command line. The new file transferred just fine.
So ... if the mpg is already 29.97 fps, I do not want pyTivo to transcode it, but if it is not, I do want it to ... is there an easy way to accomplish this? Or should I just go ahead and force it to always transcode?
