Now and then, some people will hear an ugly noise at the start of an MP3 track, always on the same files. As best I can determine, this is the result of the TiVo attempting to play the embedded album art as though it were audio data. It doesn't happen on every track with album art, though; my guess is that it only happens when the picture is attached at the beginning of the file instead of the end, but it could be something else.
Anyway, the fix (in my repos now) is to tell pyTivo to always use ffmpeg to reencode the track, even when it's compatible. This way, only the audio data is passed through. I was able to test this since I finally got some MP3s that show the problem, and it does the trick.
The option is activated on a per-share basis by adding this line to the music share's section in your pyTivo.conf:
force_ffmpeg = True
This uses the same method as fast-forwarding, where the audio data is simply copied, not really reencoded; so no quality is lost, and the overhead is as low as possible, given that we're spawning an ffmpeg process. _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page
