Is there a newer ffmpeg build that can handle WMV files with VC1 video stream embeded?
Barring that, any recomendations on conversion of this file/stream format to one that ffmpeg DOES understand or to .mpg directly?
Not sure about WMV container, but I think I tested VC1 inside an EVO container with my most recent ffmpeg windows build (the RC posted in my ffmpeg sticky thread.)
The problem is that WMV files containing VC1 also often contain WMA Pro audio which ffmpeg can't decode yet. There was a ffmpeg Summer of Code 2008 project to add a WMA Pro Decoder, but it hasn't been committed to trunk yet.
What exactly is ffmpeg's current VC-1 support status ?
The 11.0 fall update that TiVo is currently rolling out supports a very tight set of VC-1 encodings for HME apps.
Moyekj has had some success feeding this format to one of his boxes.
Also , is the computational overhead for VC-1 appreciably different than H.264 ?
