In my repo now: If the Python Imaging Library is not found, the Photo plugin will fall back to using FFmpeg to scale and rotate images. Since a lot of people seem to have trouble with PIL, here's an alternative.
PIL is still preferred, if available. It's faster, and the new mode doesn't support EXIF data (original rotation, capture date). And, a quirk: The FFmpeg mode needs the images to have the correct extension, which the PIL mode doesn't. (It turns out I had a bunch of PNGs named with a ".jpg" extension, for some reason, which never affected anything until now.)
If you already have PIL installed, but you want to play with this for the heck of it, just edit "use_pil = True" to "use_pil = False" near the top of photo.py.
There are also a couple of changes to the PIL mode to support more image types, and output in better quality. _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page
