So I have compiled ffmpeg about a dozen times and am running into errors during the transcode. There is a very good possibility that I may be missing libraries while compiling ffmpeg. I have very basic linux experience so please bare with me.
As far as the configuration of ffmpeg for pyTivo I have used the following configuration only because that is the configuration of the ffmpeg version 0.8.10 that was already installed on the Qnap and worked but was very slow.
The script works for the X86_64 architecture of the NAS. The other tutorials I was reading were for the arm version of the qnap.
The script for compiling ffmpeg (compile_ffmpeg.sh) can be found here https://gist.github.com/SwoopX/5335016 but keep in mind if you have a new Qnap you will need to edit the script replacing MD0_DATA to reflect the path of the device. In my case it was CACHEDEV1_DATA.
Once I ran this I had a working version of ffmpeg that didn't compile with errors.
