Continuing with my enhancements to help users get optimal results from pyTivo without modifying any options:
Any objections if I set the default to 1280x720 for HD Tivos and 544x480 for S2's? I assume the current 544x480 setting for S2's is still appropriate.
I'd also think the appropriate default audio_br for HD Tivos should be 384k. Should I set the default to 384K for all tivo's, or leave the S2 setting at 192k? I'm leaning towards leaving the S2 default at 192k unless you think it's inconsequential. _________________ Download pyTivo my pyTivo branch
Sounds good to me. How about other params, such as frame rate (29.97) video bit rate (approx 8 to 10Mi), audio sync rate (48000) and so on ? Might as well set those up with some decent defaults as well while you're in there...

Personally, I would not set the default to 1280x720 for non-HD source material. It would increase the encode time and space used, and probably do nothing for quality. I could see going to 704x480 or 720x480 instead of 544x480, though. _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page
Absolutely. There's no need to upscale stuff unnecessarily.
However, I think wgw was implicitly coupling this with his other work, which would allow content to be transcoded to HD units without rescaling it as well. Only content that was greater than the specified height would be rescaled to fit the user config.
