Currently I have a WHS box with hundreds of mkv's. Either with a DD or DTS audio track. Just now i'm making my own bluray rips to MKV and i'm taking the trueHD or DTS-MA HD audio tracks and ripping them to lossless flac.
I play all this back on my HTPC with madflac sending 24bit flac out to the receiver as LPCM. I do have a 7.1 surround sound setup.
My HTPC plays the videos off of my server, it handles all the decoding and such.
Can pytivo and a Tivo HD handle this with no loss of quality on the video or the audio? Can the Tivo HD output 7.1 LPCM to the receiver?

The TiVo will only accept AC3 or MP2 audio (except in pushes, where AAC or WMA2 can also be used in certain circumstances). Everything else has to be transcoded. I think it will only do 5.1 audio, but I'm not sure. I don't recall anyone talking about 7.1.
Also, AC3 tracks must be 448 Kbps or below, or they'll be transcoded. _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page
