Sorry if this is a rudimentary question but the sticky post at the top of this forum links to non-existent troubleshooting guides. Someone should update that!
I've been running pyTivo on my XP laptop for years, and just recently bought a new desktop machine to use as a media server since the laptop isn't always hooked up to my big hard drive.
I got pyTivo installed and running, but TiVo doesn't see it. TiVo DOES see the Tivo Desktop server if I let that run (though I'm not paying $25 for it so it does me no good, it just shows an empty server).
I have tried turning off the XP pyTivo service and that did no good.
On a side note, I'm also unable to ping the Vista box from XP, even though I can see it (but not connect to it) in the list of Network Places, and I can ping, view files, and TightVNC to the XP machine from Vista.
I have tried disabling UAC and disabling the windows firewall on both computers to no avail, as well as creating a guest account with no password and another account with the same name and password as my XP machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I spent $500 on this computer with the sole intention of using it as a pyTivo server!
