I have been using PyTivoX to transfer various formats of video from my Mac to my TiVo and it has been beautiful up until I updated my firmware on my Linksys wireless router. A cable technician suggested I do the firmware update because of internet problems I had recently. I did the hard reset of the router as recommended after a firmware update, but now when I transfer video from my Mac to the TiVo, it results in tiling, blocks and artifacts so that it is too annoying to watch.
As an experiment, I used TiVo Desktop and TiVo Transfer to transfer a short recorded HD TV show to my Mac, then I transferred the same video back to the TiVo and it came out just fine. The difference is mostly that it was already in the TiVo format so probably required no encoding.
Any advice that might help me? Do I have to buy a new router to get good quality video again from my Mac to the TiVo?
Please do not post support questions in the pyTivo development forum. That forum is for requesting new features and modifications to the pyTivo code, not usage issues.
Every once in a while my Tivo hardware spontaneously decides to introduce video glitches into the video it receives (even for the same video that previously transferred fine.) Normally a reboot or just letting it sit for a few hours and retrying the same transfer will result in good video. This seems to be a bug in the Tivo software.
As for sending back the .tivo file instead of other video formats, the .tivo file likely goes through less processing on the Tivo side so it may not tickle the glitch I'm talking about.
