Been a busy holiday. Lots of overtime, and of course Christmas..
Post-Christmas has brought in a new Panasonic TV into the family room (finally I'm in the 21st century!), but we still have our trusty old Series2 for now..
Widescreen movies that I have previously pushed to the Series2 when viewing on our new 16:9 TV still have the letterbox bars top-and-bottom... so it's just a really wide (stretched) 4:3 image..
Several quick questions that I'm sure all of you could answer easily:
1) If I tell my Tivo that I now have a 16:9 TV and push/pull a movie, will it still put bars in?
2) If Tivo always forces 4:3 (even when you specify 16:9 in the Tivo menu), then is here a way I can have pyTivo / ffmpeg vertically 'stretch' (aka "fit to screen") the pushed/pulled movie content so that when it is sent to the new fancy Panasonic plasma it all turns out right (full 16:9 image)?

A few things:
1) You should tell your Tivo that it is now displaying to a 16:9 TV.
2) Widescreen movies will many times still be letterboxed on a 16:9 display because the video is actually not 16:9 but usually around ~2.40:1.
It's been a while since I have played around with a Series2, but I think everything is handled on the Tivo as far as display and nothing really needs to change on the pytivo side. I could be wrong though.
